#VolunteeringRocks – Christine Schneider, Salesforce Germany

By Salesforce.org March 11, 2016

My volunteering highlight of the last fiscal year was definitely the CoderDojo session that took place during last summer’s Salesforce World Tour in Munich.

I recruited a 3rd grade class from a Munich primary school, where my son Luk attends, to participate in the session. It was a great opportunity for the whole class – their first visit to a conference, and their first experience of coding. It was so amazing to see the kid’s excitement and interest, they really felt welcome at World Tour, although it was not that easy to align the kid’s energy with a business conference 😉

The coding session was held with half of the group whilst I hosted the other half and gave them a little guide through the conference centre.

Children are like sponges – they are so curious and thankful when you show them something special – and that was the reason why I will never forget this day. 24 kids saying THANK YOU with bright eyes when leaving the World Tour with coding in their brains and some little presents in their hands! How great is it to have the possibility of giving back.

To have the opportunity to combine Salesforce volunteering and  spending time with my own children is a unique gift I am very thankful for.
