Pro Bono Profiles: Feeding Hong Kong Increases Food Distribution Capabilities with Pro Bono Support

In a region where 1-in-5 people live in poverty, Feeding Hong Kong (FHK) has taken on the mission of bridging the food industry with the hungry of Hong Kong. A truly unique and impactful food bank, FHK also works to raise awareness and food insecurity, and to educate the public about the importance of healthy eating.
According to Richard Lord, a Director of Feeding Hong Kong, “FHK is a food bank which distributes surplus food from around 170 food donors to around 80 charities. Hong Kong doesn’t have any social safety net, so around 18% of Hong Kongers live below the poverty line. They don’t have what we call food security — they don’t know where their next meal is coming from.”
Expanding Salesforce to Support Donors, Volunteers and Partners
While FHK had been using Salesforce coupled with the AppExchange app TopShelf to manage its food inventory, it wasn’t leveraging the full force of Salesforce’s capabilities to manage its donor, partner and volunteer engagements. But thanks to the support of pro bono pros from Salesforce Hong Kong, that is all changing.
With support from Herman Ng, Zibin Wang, Garrick Shin and Heather Chan from Salesforce, FHK has automated many of its manual tasks, allowing it to maximize its resources and power its critical mission forward. And the results are already rolling in!
Richard Lord confirms: “Since going live with the new inventory management system we have made significant gains in the time taken to receive and ship food through the warehouse. When we go live with the NPSP we anticipate greater efficiency savings and increased productivity”
Spotting an Opportunity with NPSP
Having grown rapidly over the last three years, FHK knew it needed a system that could scale right alongside them. The Salesforce pro bono team identified an opportunity for FHK to leverage the Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) with a goal of supporting this growth. After mapping out their needs, the pro bono team designed and deployed a customised version of NPSP to fulfill FHK’s requirements.
“We have more data than ever before about our donors, our charities and our inventory. We want to build on this and use it to meet the needs of our charities more proactively, said Gabrielle Kirstein, Executive Director, Feeding Hong Kong. “The ongoing support we have from the Salesforce team in Hong Kong makes all the difference in helping us achieve our goals.”
It’s inspiring to see the impact this pro bono project has already delivered — and the future is only looking brighter and brighter for FHK!
Salesforce Hong Kong will be along for the journey offering their continued support.
