By October 20, 2014

Pro Bono WeekIt’s National Pro Bono Week and Salesforce is celebrating by recognizing five outstanding Pro Bono Pros who use their Salesforce skills to drive social change. Pro Bono Week is a global celebration of the pro bono ethic that drives professionals across the world to use their talents to make a difference. Today we recognize Greg Nelson!

Greg Nelson, Principal Sales Engineer with Salesforce for five years, has a passion for empowering those who have led challenging lives. So it’s no surprise that he chooses to spend his volunteer time off working with two nonprofits that do just that. Using his unique skills as a Sales Engineer, Greg has logged an impressive 90 pro bono volunteer hours this year volunteering with a pair of organizations based in Dallas, Texas.

Dwell with Dignity is a nonprofit group of Interior Designers and volunteers dedicated to creating soothing, inspiring homes for families struggling with poverty and homelessness. They transform homes with furniture, artwork, bedding, lamps, kitchen supplies, accessories and a pantry stocked with food. Mosaic serves people with intellectual disabilities across the United States by providing employment, residential and advocacy services. Mosaic operates a secure document shredding business in Dallas, where their constituents are able to earn a living while developing skills and doing meaningful work.

Greg has worked with both organizations to understand their business operations and to implement custom solutions built on the Salesforce1 Platform. These tools allow the organizations to efficiently engage their donors and to streamline business processes. Dwell with Dignity now uses Salesforce to track their fundraising campaigns and this year, they will fully furnish and decorate eighteen homes with those in-kind and monetary donations. Mosaic has also been using Salesforce to track donations, and additionally Greg was able to fully automate their customer invoicing and document destruction certification processes, saving time for their employees and contributing to better relationships with their customers!

Greg was inspired by the missions and values of these two organizations, and by the energy and commitment of their staff. After volunteering with both groups for over a year, it’s clear that the feeling is mutual. Bobbie Hamilton, Business Manager at Mosaic, says, “Greg’s enthusiasm is infectious; he makes me want to do the best job I can.” Greg is quick to recommend pro bono work to other employees at Salesforce. Greg says, “You can use the Salesforce knowledge you already have to truly make a difference in someone’s life!”

Thank you to Greg Nelson for demonstrating the very best of Salesforce’s culture of giving back. In honor of Greg, is making a $250 donation to his charity of choice.
