OtotheB – supporting the app-etite for more STEM resources for young women

Salesforce.org announces $100,000 grant to Stemettes and continued commitment to STEM education for young women
It was just over a year ago that Stemettes came to the Salesforce Tower in London to launch its Outbox Incubator programme, funded by Salesforce.org. Since then, Stemettes has gone from strength to strength, most recently expanding its digital presence with the new OtotheB application that brings some of the most sought after resources and benefits of its events straight to the smartphones of thousands of young women.
Today, Salesforce.org is pleased to announce an additional grant of $100,000 to Stemettes so that the organisation can further develop its OtotheB application to provide ongoing resources to support and nurture girls under 22 yrs who have an interest in STEM.
Since its inception in 2013, Stemettes has inspired more than 10,000 young women around the UK, Ireland and wider Europe with their programmes that take STEM education beyond the classroom. Through a core programme of panel events, exhibitions, hackathons and mentoring schemes, Stemettes has worked to engage young women in considering careers in STEM.
With its OtotheB application, launched in beta in early 2016, Stemettes is able to reach a wider audience of young women across Europe by making more resources available on mobile.
The grant will be used to continue to develop the OtotheB app through: the addition of new features such as live chats with mentors; support for a continuous stream of new content development to support young women who are interested in STEM subjects; the ability to engage a broader group of volunteers and mentors; integration of the application data with Stemettes’ CRM; reaching a wider audience of young women through marketing activities.
“Salesforce.org has been an invaluable source of support for Stemettes, helping make groud-breaking new programmes, such as the Outbox Incubator a reality,” said Anne-Marie Imafidon, founder and Head Stemette, Stemettes. “Our vision for OtotheB will be to create an app that replicates the Outbox experience and its outcomes for a larger audience of young women. This latest grant will take OtotheB to the next level as a go-to and on-demand resource for young women. It will be a place for them to develop their own career confidence, awareness, knowledge, perception and network.”
“Salesforce.org is excited about this next step in our partnership with Stemettes,” said Charlotte Finn, VP Programs, Salesforce.org EMEA. “OtotheB is the first app of its kind to truly support girls in STEM. By connecting girls with mentors and making information readily available, OtotheB will support the next generation of women in STEM, in both understanding the opportunities that STEM affords, and making these opportunities accessible and achievable. We all have the ability to contribute towards this movement – I believe this app will help us collectively do that.”
