Empowering Young Women in India Through Training…

By: Ajay Shresti, Program Manager, Salesforce APAC
Giving someone access to training and support can dramatically impact their future lives and help them independently work towards a standard of living they deserve. Collaborating with Cheshire Homes India-BU, Salesforce.org offered a vocational training and skills development program to 17 young woman with hearing impairments who were unskilled and unable to secure employment.
Following the training, all 17 young women were placed with jobs at Sun ITES Consulting PVT LTD – an incredible achievement and something that Salesforce India is really proud of!
The month long training program was delivered by an external trainer who was supported by an experienced disability trainer from Cheshire Homes India-BU. Along with this technical training, participants got the chance to take part in soft-skills training and career readiness preparation with Salesforce volunteers.
Topics covered during the Salesforce training included: Communication Skills, Body Language, Interview Skills, Career Progression and Mock Interviews. These sessions helped participants build confidence in how to approach different work situations and also how to conduct themselves professionally.
We received this amazing feedback from one of the participants, which shows the impact of these programs:
I am Kamakshi, 20 years old and deaf by birth. I am from a remote village in Karnataka called Kollegal. I lost my father in March of 2017 – he was a lorry driver. My mother works as a daily wage worker on construction sites.
I attended the vocational training program organised by Salesforce.org and CHI BU which helped me with everything from making my resume to life skills. The mock interview sessions conducted by Salesforce volunteers boosted my confidence, which I believe helped me secure my role at Sun ITES Consulting PVT LTD. I am now a Trainee Process Executive and I am so happy and excited – the whole experience has been unbelievable.
Thank you to Salesforce.org and CHI BU for guiding me and helping me to become financially independent. All the training sessions moulded me into a stronger individual and motivated me to leave my hardships behind and look towards a bright future. My mother has sacrificed so much for me and now is my time to take care of her. Thank you for intervening at the most crucial time of my life and changing my life for the greater good.
