CloudRun Singapore 2013 Raises 100,000SGD for a local nonprofit
by Esther Nai, Foundation Program Executive, Singapore
At West Coast Park, Singapore, 152 employees turned up for the afternoon run and managed to raise a truly impressive amount of funds for TOUCH Community Service, bringing the total to 100,000 SGD, with a match coming in from Salesforce.org.
This year, the funds raised will go towards supporting the Visual Arts Program at TOUCH Centre for Independent Living (TCIL) and TOUCH Ubi Hostel (TUH) for a year, to benefit 56 trainees with intellectual disabilities.
In the years since the program was implemented, it has been pivotal in helping trainees, especially those who were unable to hold a job to use their artistic abilities to create signature works for sale and some allowances to support themselves. The program has also helped them to better manage their emotions and exhibit less destructive behaviours. Through showcasing their artworks, we hope that this program will continue to empower this group of talented young adults and allow the wider community to recognize the potential demonstrated by these individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Apart from raising funds for TOUCH through the Charity Run, Salesforce.org has also sponsored and participated in an outing to the S.E.A Aquarium with 48 trainees of TCIL in August this year. The outing was an excellent opportunity and the first time for many of the trainees to experience the world’s largest aquarium.
Mr Edmund Wong, General Manager, TOUCH Community Services said,
“We are extremely heartened to welcome Salesforce.com as a supporter of TOUCH Community Services. Through the partnership of companies such as Salesforce.com, TOUCH has managed to reach out to many individuals over the last 21 years. In 2012 alone, more than 28,000 clients and 211,000 service users benefitted from our programmes.
We have been inspired by The Salesforce.org’s mission to leverage its people, technology and resources to help improve communities around the world. Moving forward, we will work closely with Salesforce.com to identify areas of partnership that will enable more people to benefit from the programmes of both companies.”
“Cloud Run’13 was our largest foundation event in Singapore this year. It was a joy to see over 150 employees collaborate to raise $100K for our beneficiary, and to host them at the run. We see this as the beginning of a relationship with TOUCH community services, a local NGO with whom our employees can continue to partner with to impact the community.” Alvin Liew, Chairman of Cloud Run Committee’ 13
(TCIL is a day activity centre for persons with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, providing basic training in daily living skills and personal social skills to prepare clients for independent living. TUH is a residential training facility for adults with mild intellectual disabilities. The hostel offers intermediate to advanced levels of training in home management, community and job readiness skills to enable trainees to live an independent life and be integrated into society. The Visual Arts Training program allows trainees of both TCIL and TUH to benefit from personal expression and additional vocational choices through the creation of art forms and handicraft.)
