Need some concrete examples? Here are some examples to help you write a great award nomination.

1. Overall Excellence in Student Success

A sample submission in student success might be:

Overview: Cloud University is using Salesforce to impact Student Success in many areas but specifically in the area of Advising. Our biggest impact to student success is based on our use of HEDA + SAL, which has enabled Cloud University’s Advising Department to define, interact, track, and measure the success of our students as well as Advisors.

User Story: Randy Bell came to Cloud University with a goal of becoming the first member of his family to graduate from college. Shortly after being accepted into the College of Cloud Computing and enrolling in his first semester, Randy had his first setback midway through the semester: the death of his father. This impacted Randy’s ability to attend classes, let alone focus on a very aggressive class schedule. After a few missed classes and barely passing mid-term grades, Randy’s record was flagged and their Success Team was alerted that something was wrong. Randy’s advisor, Melissa, jumped into action by reaching out to Randy to setup a series of advising appointments with the goal of identifying resources to assist Randy during this hard time.

Through these series of advising appointments, Randy received the academic support he needed to successfully complete his first-semester courses. Melissa not only established herself as an academic success resource in her Advising Department but as an empathetic and compassionate advisor to Randy, as Melissa had lost her father 2 years prior and knew what resources were needed. Through the ability to connect with students like Randy and ensure his continued success no matter the setback, Cloud University’s Advising Department was able to support the retention efforts of the University while keeping their promise to assist in the goals of first time college students like Randy.

*Top 3-5 submissions will be selected by Salesforce.org and then released to the community. The community will then vote on a winner within the Power of Us Hub.

2. Overall Excellence in Operational Efficiency

A sample submission in operational efficiency could look like this:

Overview: Cloud University is using Salesforce to increase Operational Efficiency by streamlining the Application process through the use of HEDA + Enterprise Application Solution for Yield (EASY) – an open source solution which was introduced to the Salesforce.org open source community through a Salesforce’s Technology Innovation Grant given to Maryville University in 2016.

User Story: The Admissions Department of Cloud University receives hundreds of applications every day. Pam, the Undergraduate Applications Processor, is not only responsible for processing undergraduate student applications but is also responsible for keeping the undergraduate application forms up-to-date based on the requirements of each Undergraduate Department. In order to make those form updates Pam would have to submit a ticket to the IT Department, as in her current role, she does not have access to make those updates herself. With the introduction of EASY, Pam was able to take on the responsibility of not only updating the Application forms herself, which freed up the IT Department to focus on other higher priority tickets Pam had submitted for the Admissions Department, but empowered her to create new Application forms as needed. With the introduction of EASY, Pam was enabled to be effective as well as efficient while supporting both the Admissions and Undergraduate Departments needs and requirements and freeing up valuable resources in the IT Department.

*Top 3-5 submissions will be selected by Salesforce.org and then released to the community. The community will then vote on a winner within the Power of Us Hub.

3. Overall Excellence in Innovation*

For this category, the winning submission will be selected by Salesforce.org. A sample submission in the Innovation category might be:

Overview: Cloud University is using Salesforce.org Open Source Community Sprints to drive Innovation through open source community contributions whose aim is to extend and/or build upon Salesforce.org products.

User Story: Cloud University is always looking for ways to drive innovation around our campus technology solutions. With the adoption of HEDA we are engaging with the open source community and Product Teams in the Power of Us Hub to help drive innovations surrounding HEDA product improvement. While attending an Open Source Community Sprint, Cloud University engaged the Sprint Community in a dialogue surrounding a perceived gap in the Affiliation object based on a HEDA Idea submission. From there, Cloud University began documenting where the gap existed in the current Affiliation object, outlined the corrective actions (code) required to make the needed adjustments, and created end-user documentation to support the community. After the Sprint, Cloud University continued to engage with the HED Open Source Community Manager, HED Developers, and HEDA Product Manager through continuous dialogue surrounding the proposed solution and the use of a live demo with the end goal of having this proposed solution absorbed directly into HEDA.

After careful review by the Higher Education Open Source Community Manager, HEDA PM, developers, and technical architects, Cloud University made its first Pull Request to the HEDA Github repository, which ultimately closed the original HEDA Idea surrounding the gap, enabled more functionality around the Affiliation object, and empowered Cloud University to continue its efforts in driving innovation through community contributions.
