Today, delivering on our promise to invest in future ready leaders, announced a $1.75M investment in four high-impact organizations that are committed to making college a reality and ensuring career success for first-generation and/or low-income students.

Helping to Make College and Career Success a Reality for Under-Served Students

I could not be more proud to invest in Beyond 12, Bottom Line, Braven, and One Goal. These organizations are focused on creating opportunities for under-served young adults to succeed on their journey to and through college and into strong careers, and are mission-aligned with our commitment to prepare youth for the opportunities of today and tomorrow.

We know that first-generation and low-income students overwhelmingly have strong aspirations to attend college; but many face hurdles that stand in their way of persisting in higher education. In fact, 30% of first-generation students dropped out of college after three years, compared to 14% of their peers whose parents had earned a degree, according to a 2018 Department of Education report.

And even for those who succeed in persisting, the college degree alone is not enough to enable them to maximize their full potential. As noted by our grantee, Braven, only 25% of approximately 1.2 million low-income, first-generation college enrollees will attain a strong first job or go on to graduate school.

Our investment will support these organizations to ensure that college can be a reality for more low-income and first-generation students, and help them persist through graduation and into strong first jobs.

More About These Remarkable Education and Workforce Development Organizations

Beyond12Beyond 12
Beyond 12 works with institutions across the country (K-12 schools, college access organizations, colleges and universities) offering them a longitudinal student tracking platform and a personalized, virtual student coaching service that provides students with the academic, social, and emotional support they need to earn college degrees. To date, they have coached more than 7,000 college students and tracked post-secondary progress of 100,000 students.

Bottom Line
Bottom LineBottom Line recruits rising high school seniors applying to college and soon-to-be high school graduates who are on a four-year degree track and provides structured, high-touch 1:1 college coaching for everything from college applications through to college graduation. The organization works with young adults throughout their college years, and is particularly focused on increasing the recruitment of Black and Hispanic male participants.

OneGoal partners with school districts to train high-performing high school teachers in low-income communities to provide college support to students. Teachers have access to college-related curriculum, training, and coaching throughout the year, as well as a robust data platform. Educators are supported in delivering the OneGoal program, a three-year, credit bearing course taught during the final two years of high school and through the first year of college, helping to ensure greater college persistence.

BravenBraven empowers promising, underrepresented young adults—first-generation college students, students from low-income backgrounds, and students of color—with the skills, confidence, experience and networks necessary to transition from college to strong first jobs, which lead to meaningful careers and lives of impact.
